Textile/pattern designer from Finland – Life after University

After graduating in 2013 I started working for the contemporary textile company Nitin Goyal London. The job started as an internship, but I soon became part of the design team creating new collections for cushions, scarves and other products, which the company produced and sold to retailers around the world. It has been a fascinating experience creating designs according to someone else’s vision and strictly following the trends that are booming in the industry. Although, it’s a very different approach to design in comparison to when I do it for my own practice.

I have since then moved into a more interior design related position, working for the luxury soft furnishing company Cameron Broom. Through this job I have learnt a great deal about the end consumer by working closely with them on projects involving all aspects of the textile design in their homes. At this stage I want to develop further within the industry and complete a MBA in Luxury Brand Management. The course in Art and Design not only gave me the tools and skills needed to develop my own style as a designer but also the ability to understand the practical business part of working in design industry.

Progression: IFM’s Master of Science in International Luxury Management, Paris
